A Summer of Design in London

This month has been the London Festival of Architecture, and while toddling around the capital with a very happy boyfriend I have also had the chance to see some fantastic fashion exhibitions. The Central Saint Martins futuristic textile development course and fashion textiles exhibitions were eye opening- from the currently popular neoprene to entirely new fabrics of hugely variant weights and textures, the results were fascinating, often bizarre, and very exciting.
And of course, my favourite innovations selected for the Design Museum's Designs of the Year 2014 show were the fashion ones- with Prada's wonderful Spring and Summer collection for 2014 holding its own amongst some incredible design ideas. The powerful women theme runs throughout with bold colours and a strong motif of the architectural bra- a structure of support and femininity that creates powerful imagery through the whole collection.

This Friday I will be heading off to Brighton, another fashion centre for the UK, so I'll be updating with news of what I find soon! More than a little bit keen to get my hands stuck into all of those cyber style and vintage shops- my idea of heaven?

SS15 Pre: Co

A starkly beautiful new collection from Co is today's subject, mixing jacquard material with light cotton, black palettes with white, tradition with novelty. There is something very clean and new-looking in those carefully arranged pleats and bulky, silhouette-defying shapes.
The simplicity of the first shirt pictured below is a great example for the collection as a whole, not only in its eye-catchingly simple design but also in its presentation. Co opts for a no-frills approach, except where the odd ruffle makes its way into one of the garments, as seen in the two final shots. Boyish and feminine shapes give an androgynous, ambiguous feel- a sort of clean slate that wipes away boundaries and makes each piece a canvas for the wearer's personality to be stamped upon.
I love this collection, and I hope sharing it gets a few more fashion-lovers checking out this fashion house's forward-looking design!

SS15 Pre: Clover Canyon and Colour Clash Collections

Clover Canyon is still quite a new designer to me, and with every look I see I fall a little more in love. Take the latest collection- a long line of contrasting oranges, blues and pinks all colliding with each other through pattern. Beyond simple colour blocking, the shades begin to weave between each other, creating some eye-catching pieces that will place the wearer right in the centre of attention!

SS15: Alexis Mabille

A gorgeous collection to share today- the cobalt and cool grey, oceanic splendour of Alexis Mabille's Spring and Summer looks! Simple, almost military style buttoning is offset against delicate hems of lace and some carefully composed shapes.
As seen in a few collections this time round (new trends to look out for?), there are also big bows and 3D detailing in the formalwear throughout, but the more casual items are also striking in their bold colour blocking and clean shapes. However, my favourite aspect of these looks is the ruffle detail, not overwhelming the collection but adding flair to some of the most summery pieces!

McQ Alexander McQueen Pre Spring/Summer 2015

Relaxed shapes meet some interesting angles and layering in the latest McQ collection, while black bases are contrasted by bold, warm florals.
I love the use of zips to create new lines across the body, as seen in the black dress below, and the Eastern influence in the belts and floral patterns adds an exotic edge, perfect for summer.

SS15: Anna Sui's Bohemian Rhapsody

A contrast of flowing dresses sitting just above the knee and more modern jumpers and short skirts or playsuits are the chosen shapes of Anna Sui for next year's summer season. Keeping the colours mostly warm and subtle, the collection has a modern prairie-style look in light materials to move delicately in a summer breeze and keep the wearer beautifully cool.

SS15: The future is ADEAM

I always have an eye out for hyper-modern looks, and ADEAM has hit the nail on the head with this Spring and Summer collection for 2015. A mostly monochrome scheme is injected with flashes of silver for eye-catching results, while the silhouettes are simple and striking.
